Fave Five Friday #6

It's time once again for FFF! I can't believe how quickly summer is going by--I start school a week from Monday! I wish I had just a few more weeks at home to enjoy, but I'm going to appreciate the next week or so I have left.

1. Hiking/picnicking with my family

I love spending time in the mountains! (not me in the pic, BTW)
  2. Walking around the famous 16th Street Mall (in Denver)

This place is huge! And super cool :)

3. Last-minute shopping

What a haul haha

4. Trying new hairstyles
I love my hair waver!

5. Visiting Forever 21 for the first time ever (!)

The ring I bought :)

What are you enjoying about summer?

Fave Five Friday #2

It's that time of the week again...Friday! I love Fridays, but during the summer they don't really have any special significance to me. But last week, I started Fave Five Friday, where I highlight five of my favorite parts of the previous week. It makes Fridays special again. So here we go for number 2!

1. Pinkberry

The first Pinkberry in my city opened up last week! I tried the watermelon froyo with fresh mango and pineapple chunks
 2. Getting some sun

I didn't read but I did jam out to some Lady Gaga!
3. Instagram

It creates the coolest, most artistic photos!
4. Window shopping

It can be even more fun than actual shopping!
5. Jazz music

Jazz is one of my favorite types of music

What was one favorite thing about your week?

Memorial Day is for Shopping!

Hi everybody! Have you all been having a fantastic weekend so far? Hope you’re enjoying your day off (if you have one)!
My weekend has been busy, just the way I like it. Sometimes I just like to stay home and chill, but I get bored after about a day of that. I like getting out of the house and doing something, it doesn’t necessarily have to cost money. However, my day yesterday definitely required a little spending, which I didn’t mind at all!
In the two weeks I’ve been home so far, I’ve been doing a lot of chores around the house. I’m not a huge fan of some of these chores (hello, cleaning the bathroom!) but if I can earn some money and make my mom happy, then I’m more than willing to do it. I’ve also been making “wish lists” of clothes I wanted to buy and when I finally made enough money to justify a shopping trip, I went! My mom and sister tagged along (even though my sister had no money) and so began our afternoon of shopping!
I ended up buying 5 things yesterday and (almost) ran out of money. At Hollister, I bought a red floral romper for $20, a pair of coral flip-flops for $10 and a pair of khaki shorts for $18. Oh, and I also had a coupon to take 30% off my entire purchase, so everything ended up costing only $35! What a steal!

Next we hit up American Eagle. This weekend only, everything in the store was 30% off! Of course I had to check it out. I left with a lime green striped oversize tee that I got for $18.

Lime green tee and denim shorts

Finally, we went to Abercrombie Kids. I know that it’s technically a kids store, but their sizes go up to a kids size 16, so I can usually find something that fits me for a lower price than a similar style at Abercrombie & Fitch. I scored a pair of cuffed denim shorts for a little over $20!
We also stopped for some gelato on our way home. Gelazzi is the best place for gelato EVER, so if you’re ever in the Denver or Fort Collins area, make sure you check them out. I got half birthday cake, half soy chocolate and was not disappointed!
Back at home, I tried my stuff on. I was slightly anxious when I realized that the shorts and the romper fit a little tighter than I expected them to. Not skintight by any means, but I’m used to my clothes fitting kinda loosely. The tee was of course pretty roomy, but I was expecting the rest of my stuff to fit differently. I have shorts that I bought just a couple of months ago from the same stores, and they’re in the same sizes and fit a little looser. I asked my mom what she thought and she thought they fit me fine. The romper was what I was most anxious about, since I’ve heard rompers are supposed to fit loosely. Mine only has a few inches of space in the body and a little more room in the legs, but I still feel a little self-conscious in it.
Here’s my dilemma: I love to shop, but the way clothes fit me and the size I wear both make me really nervous. If I have to go up a size (just because the cut is different) I will usually end up not buying it. I usually look for clothes that aren’t body skimming, but more flowy and loose. I wish I could feel more confident in clothes that fit my body well, but I feel like they show off my body too much. Right now, I’m really struggling to like what I see in the mirror. Every time I take a picture of myself, I think my thighs and arms look huge and my stomach is so round. I honestly don’t know if that’s what I actually look like or what ED is telling me I look like. I just wish for one day that I could see myself the way I truly am. I’m so sick of this body dysmorphia.
Q’s: Do you like to shop? How do you combat your ‘bad body’ days?

I Live for the Weekend!

*Note: If size numbers trigger you, then skip the third paragraph!
Hiya! Long time no see! I guess I’ve just been pretty busy over the last week and I didn’t have a lot to say that I thought was blog-worthy. But don’t worry, I’ve still been reading all your lovely blogs and commenting.
It’s safe to say that this weekend is already a LOT more fun and busier than last. I always have a better weekend when I go home, it’s just a nicer atmosphere and I always have so much stuff to do that I barely have time to do homework! Not such a good thing, but at least I enjoy myself ;)
My mom and sister came to pick me up yesterday afternoon. My sister hasn’t been able to pick me up in awhile but since she just got done with her musical, her schedule is pretty much free. I love the conversations the three of us have in the car—we can talk for hours and not get bored and we always have the funniest observations. It makes driving the 2 ½ hours totally bearable. And last night, we made a stop (a long one, lol) at my favorite mall. We grabbed dinner at the food court (I got a falafel gyro sandwich, which I didn’t really like that much, the falafel was too greasy so I ended up only eating the insides and there was a lot of the tzatziki yogurt sauce, which is a fear food of mine, so I ate as little of it as possible) and then got right to shopping! Abercrombie and Fitch was first since my sis had something she really wanted there. Don’t get me wrong, I love that store, but it is pretty expensive. However…I was the one who ended up buying something there, not her! I got the cutest pair of red, white and navy plaid checked shorts and I LOVE them! Yes, I am starting to love and be comfortable with shorts. But my mom insisted I try them on and I am so uncomfortable trying stuff on. I hate it. But I grabbed them in a size 0 and headed straight for the dressing room. To my surprise, my mom thought they were loose on me. I actually did too, but I was planning on wearing them with a belt. So she got me a size 00. I was so scared that these would be too small for me and then I’d feel bad, but they actually fit really well, not too loose or too tight. I just want you to know that I would have been comfortable getting them in size 0, but honestly, the 00s looked a lot better on me so I got them. And they were on clearance for $22!
We also went to American Eagle, and the sales associate that greeted us was wearing this really cute cropped t-shirt. Normally, I’m not a fan of t-shirts, but it looked so cute so I had to find it. Luckily I did and I bought it for only $19.50! It’s a charcoal grey, loose and cropped and it has this cool pastel-colored Navajo-style pattern across it. I love mixing boho/hippie style with girly stuff so this tee was perfect for me.
Sorry this photo is so awful, I took it on my phone but forgot the cord so I took a picture of a picture. But it was my vegan gyro and it was delish!

At Hollister, I was on the lookout for a navy tank top to go with my new shorts. It wasn’t hard to find one—what was hard was deciding which one to get! My mom said she would buy it for me, but I was on the fence between this really pretty one with ruffles on it or one with a simple silk bow on one of the straps. I ended up getting a completely different one with smaller ruffles that seemed to look better with the shorts. And since I had a little bit more money left, I got ANOTHER pair of shorts! Am I crazy or what haha! I’m actually really excited to wear them show them off. Honestly, I’m sick of always feeling ashamed of my body and trying to hide it while still looking cute. It’s hard to do and I’m just over it. Why can’t I wear shorts and feel good about it?

Not my new shorts, but I love these too!

Today has been really really busy too. I woke up at 7 (early for me) so my dad and I could go downtown to a film festival. We saw some animated shorts which were cool and we’re headed back down there tonight for some more short films. After that, we got some lunch at a Mediterranean place. I got a vegan gyro sandwich with hummus, tabbouleh salad, olives and all kinds of roasted veggies, like sundried tomatoes and artichoke hearts (first time I tried them and I love em!). It was the bomb.com, no lie! A million times better than the gyro I had last night, but it was so huge that I couldn’t finish it. Then we went to Whole Foods (yay!) and I got so much stuff, it was ridiculous. A lot of it is new to me, so I can’t wait to “review” it all in the near future. In fact, for part 2 of my afternoon snack, I tried a Medjool date with some almond butter…um, yum! Why didn’t I try this earlier? I love love love Whole Foods so much!

Action shot lol

Well, me and my dad are about to head downtown again and we’re grabbing dinner at an organic peanut butter and jelly place before the shorts program. Trust me, I don’t normally eat out this much, and it does make me anxious ED-wise, but I love spending time with my family, so it’s all good. See ya later!
Q’s: Are you uncomfortable trying clothes on in dressing rooms? Favorite type of cuisine (mine is Mediterranean, obvs!)

Spring Break Part 3

Happy Saturday, everyone! It’s finally sunny here and warmer than yesterday which makes me really happy. I can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the nice fresh air.
The last few days have been pretty busy, but really good, for me. Thursday was the last day I had the house to myself for a few hours, so I got the opportunity to do some yoga outside on my deck. I’ve never done it outside, and I think I’ll definitely have to do it again sometime soon because it was even better than doing it inside. But, I noticed when I was out that it smelled really strongly like a campfire. I checked Facebook and the local news station had posted that there was a fire less than 5 miles from my house! I’m used to there being fires a lot, because I live in a really dry state and we get forest and grass fires a lot, but it was still really scary. Luckily, only a barn was destroyed in the fire.

My lovely St. Patty's Day outfit

I also got my hair cut on Thursday night. Nothing too drastic, just a trim and I got my bangs cut so they’re more side-swept. I like my hair so much now because my bangs are more noticeable.
Yesterday was soooooo much fun! My dad took a day off of work so we could go up to Denver. We went to the aquarium first, and I loved seeing all the fish and birds. I’ve only been to a few aquariums, but I think this one is my favorite, because they have lots of things, like a flash flood simulator (you get really wet!), people scuba diving with sharks and an area where you can touch and feed stingrays. I had a lot of fun and took tons of pictures.

Really cool urchin-type thing

It's Dory!!!!!!

Afterwards, we went to my favorite gelato place. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures, but it was half raspberry, half soy chocolate gelato and it was AMAZING! Chocolate and raspberry is my favorite flavor combo ever!

Jellyfish (not gelato lol)
Then we drove to my favorite Denver mall so I could do a little shopping. My sister and I went off on our own to our favorite stores. My sis didn’t end up buying anything because she didn’t have any money, but I did! I ended up getting a floral dress from Hollister and some pink leather sandals from American Eagle. I can’t wait for the weather to warm up a little bit more so I can wear them!

I love anything floral

And of course, anything pink!

After the mall, we got dinner at a Thai place nearby. I’m not a huge fan of most Thai food, because I really hate coconut, but I ended up getting the shrimp spring rolls, which were okay. It was basically just a rice paper wrapper with rice noodles, mint and a tiny bit of shrimp. They were pretty flavorless, but “safe” for my ED. I also had some edamame. Once we got back home, I was really hungry, but it was 10 o’ clock, so I felt uncomfortable eating then. My ED voice was really strong, so I skipped a snack (even though I probably needed one) and ended up doing more yoga before I watched the Tonight Show with my family. ED was happy, but I wasn’t. I’m so sick of letting him control my life lately. It’s really getting old. I’ve been getting along with my parents so much better, but ED keeps butting back into my life telling me I’m so fat and ugly, blah blah blah. I hope that I can go back to eating a normal amount when I return to school, but it’s going to be really hard. Since no one will be around to watch what I eat, I’m afraid I’m just going to give in to ED and not eat very much. But I’m going to try my very hardest to fight back.
I’m about to go play tennis with my dad and sister again—I can’t wait! We might go get Starbucks or gelato (again!) afterwards so wish me luck that I can decide to get something substantial afterwards to fuel my workout. Have a great Saturday, ladies J
